A lot of people suffer from infrequent bowel movements. This problem can cause a lot of discomfort on the part of the affected individual. This is the reason why immediate relief is much needed. There are actually certain foods that can stop constipation. Including these foods in your diet can ease discomfort.

What foods are these?

• Apple pectin – this is a good source of fiber

• Honey – this natural form of sugar softens stool for easier defecation

• Corn syrup – this has the same effect as honey

• Bale fruit – this tones and cleanses the intestines

• Lemon juice – to stop constipation, drink a warm glass of this juice 2 to 3 times a day

• Guava – for roughage

Knowing what foods to eat is not enough. To effectively stop constipation, you must also know how these foods are properly taken. So how are these foods eaten?

Here are some tips:

• Eat on schedule. The body is used to eating three meals a day. Skipping on mealtimes will provoke the body into slowing metabolism which also slows down the digestive process.

• Don’t rush when eating. Allot enough time for each meal so you can chew your food properly and help with digestion.

• Accompany every meal with lots of water. Make it a habit to drink up to 2 glasses of water after each meal. Water also helps digestion, softens stool and makes defecation easier.

Other foods that can stop constipation:

You can also include foods that are rich in omega 3 in your diet like tuna, mackerel, sardines, salmon and herring. To ensure good digestion and to stop constipation, eat other fiber rich foods as well like bananas, strawberries, blueberries, peanuts, almonds, cashews, raisins, oranges, carrots, turnip greens and Brussels sprouts.

Aside from eating healthy and drinking lots of water, you can also stop constipation by working out regularly. If you don’t have time for this, a 15 minute walk daily is already a great help.
